Eminem's 'Not Afraid' Debuts at No. 1

Eminem's current single 'Not Afraid,' off of his upcoming album 'Recovery,' will mark the 16th song to ever debut at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart.

According to Billboard, the single was released digitally on May 3 -- four days after its radio debut -- pulling in 379,000 downloads in its first week. The single is the first to debut at the top spot since Britney Spear's single '3' last Fall. Nielsen SoundScan has confirmed that 'Not Afraid' currently holds the record for biggest sales week for a digital release in 2010.

Despite it's current success, however, 'Not Afraid' is already Eminem's third single to debut at the top of the charts. His 2002 single 'Lose Yourself' held the number one spot for 12 weeks, while the 2009 single 'Crack a Bottle' set a record for most downloads in it's first week with 418,000.

Eminem's upcoming album 'Recovery' is set for a June 22 release. His previous album 'Relapse' marked his fifth straight No. 1 debut, selling 608,000 it its first week. Shady's only album to miss the No. 1 spot was the 1999 'Slim Shady LP,' which peaked at No. 2.

i agree with avenue just because you dont like a wrapper does not mean you have to sit there and try to give them a put down.and for all you who think eminem is this and the third dont judge a book by it's cover.you never know what can be there out come. most of all nobody is perfect and if drey found him and had him become famouse its because he knew eminem was talented and he figured somone else would enjoy hereing eminem.what i am trying to say is if you dont like eminem dont try to make a war with somone you dont even know it not worth it.and if there going to be so imature about it than they serioussly need to get a grip.if im a six grader and your older. you honestley need to take this advise.

Honestly, i am so tired of some dumb ass comment everytime there is an article on a rap/hip hop topic, whereas some ignorant individual from an outside standpoint knows nothing of what they're talking about, but feels the need to speak on the subject. Yeah the beatles wrote and sang their songs, but rappers write and rap their songs. some compare it to musical poetry. does anyone consider those who do spokenword talentless? and oftentimes, they also sing the chorus. the beatles or any other singers can write a song with only 10 words. how much thought had to go into that? u know how many words are in a rap? alot of singers aren't even that great of singers anyway and even more -like as stated in the comment above- don't even write their songs, so how exactly are they so much more talented? alot of rappers write 3 verses full of more than just 10 or 15 words that can be full of clever wordplay, metaphors and similes, and complicated stories. sing their hooks/choruses, produce the music, and come up with the song concept. every song isn't as simple as just another love song or different stage of a relationship like the "overwhelmingly superior" talented singers. please don't comment on something you don't thoroughly know about.

Whether or not you like his form of entertainment does not mean he is not talented. A bunch of famous people don't write there own songs anymore. I can't recall how many times I have heard a person's voice that wasn't fixed with protools. Lastly I don't know why it matters if you like the music or not, if you don't like it then don't read the whole article and complain when you don't agree.

decaturdog, not that I like ANYTHING about this guy's music, but I remember my Dad saying the same thing about some untalented hacks who called themselves the Beatles back in 1965...

But the Beatles wrote and sang songs, not chanting to a reptitive beat, and their songs are still played today - ditto for Motown and the Beach Boys. Not one "hip hop" song will ever be remembered in 5, less than 45, years. Using pre-recorded sounds is not art, and is certainly not music.

Wow, another non-talented non-musical creep sells more and more records - today's youth market must be the dumbest ever.

I am guessing your a hill billy, redkneck or over 50? maybe all 3? Have you ever been in a studio recording a hip hop song? 10 to 1 says you dont even know the definitions of a similie, metaphor, or vernacular word bending am I write? You ever sit at an MPC4000 production table fed into pro tools and create a beat? Every search through thousands of sounds in a sound bank then lay them and time theme? I seriously doubt you have a clue how muchgoes into most hip hop. Its not easy like writing a song and playing a guitar takes way more work to do.
