'24 Hour Karate School,' one of the more anticipated underground-meets-mainstream hip-hop mixtapes this year is finally on the way from producer Ski Beatz, and it's being previewed with a cool "visual mixtape." The original codename for Damon Dash's DD172 compound, '24 Hour Karate School' is on schedule to be the second release on Dash's recently resuscitated Roc-A-Fella Records imprint after Curren$y's 'Pilot Talk' drops on June 15. The video features preview footage of Beatz in the studio with some of the record's all-star MC lineup: Mos Def, Jay Electronica, Jean Grae, Curren$y, Wiz Khalifa, Jim Jones, the Cool Kids, Terri Walker, Camp Lo and more. You'll also get some hilarious scenes from 'The Last Dragon' spliced between the studio madness.
The leaked tracks and previews from '24 Hour Karate School' suggest a mix of ferocious boom-bap (see 'Prowler 2') and more flighty, soulful beatmaking mixed with heady rhymes (Mos Def and Whosane's abstract and fantastic turn on 'Taxi'). The tape should be a solid preview for how the new Roc-A-Fella will operate. Check the video and keep your fingers crossed.
