While it comes as no surprise the singer-turned-actress' career has hit a rocky road as of late--her seventh studio album, 'Love?' was set for release earlier this year but a change in record labels pushed it back once again--producers of 'Idol' are reportedly looking to Lopez as a prime candidate for the judging position.
The news comes just as talk show host Ellen DeGeneres announced her departure from the televised singing competition. With such a demanding schedule, DeGeneres felt leaving her post was the best choice. "I told them I wouldn't leave them in a bind and that I would hold off on doing anything until they were able to figure out where they wanted to take the panel next," she said. "It was a difficult decision to make, but my work schedule became more than I bargained for."
Though talk of J.Lo joining 'American Idol'--which launched careers for the likes of Jennifer Hudson, Ruben Studdard, Jordin Sparks and Fantasia--has been running the rumor mill, a discussion also emerged that mentions stars like Sean "Diddy" Combs or Justin Timberlake could be landing a seat next to Randy Jackson at the coveted judges' table.
As of press time, Lopez nor her representatives have confirmed her role as judge on 'American Idol.' Fox, the network the show is broadcast on, declined to comment on Lopez' involvement.
