Spike Lee Throwing Another Michael Jackson Birthday Party

Last year, Spike Lee planned the party of the century to honor Michael Jackson's birthday. Unfortunately, the event was close to a catastrophe as people fought rain and danced through the sludge. This year Spike is at it again. On August 29, planners will emulate and improve on the first party. Good news: There's no rain in the forecast this go-around.

"I'm looking forward to everyone from all corners of the world coming together to honor, pay respect and love the life of Michael Joseph Jackson," said Spike in a statement. Thousands are expected to gather in Park Slope's Prospect Park for what would have been the beloved pop star's 52nd birthday.

The 'Do The Right Thing' director has enlisted DJ Spinna to hold down the wheels of steel at the event. It's expected to be a six-hour party and we're pretty sure that only Jackson's music is allowed. "It's going to be bigger and better this year," said Lee, who will be documenting this year's celebration with his production company, 40 Acres and a Mule. "People are going to come from all over the world."

The Aug. 29 event at Prospect Park's Nethermead Field is free. It kicks off at noon and ends at 6PM. Here's a little reminder from Spike.
