'Right Through Me' is downright glossy pop-rap. The song rides a sample from guitar shredder Joe Satriani with some heavy double-time drums and finds Minaj addressing how her significant other is her favorite for putting up with her guarded personality.
"It's a really, really pretty song," explained Minaj to MTV News last month "Everyone's gonna like it. It's just really insightful but in a very conversational kind of way."
Nicki notably plays the track very straight, eschewing her trademark funny voices and accents and keeping things in a far more grounded, vulnerable pop territory. For fans of the wackier Minaj, 'Right Through Me' probably falls short of expectations, but the track should score well with her younger teen audience as it boasts one of the more genuine performances that the rapper has recorded thus far.
"Know when I'm lying, know when I'm crying," she raps. "It's like you got it down to a science/ why am I trying, know you ain't buyin/ I try to fight it back with defiance."
'Pink Friday' is slated to drop November 23. We're positive that fans will be hearing and seeing many more potential styles from Minaj before that date.
