Sade Turns Down Jay-Z Collaboration Request

Though she's one of hip-hop's most adored singers, Sade has rarely allowed a rapper to sample her voice, and has never accepted an invitation to collaborate, despite requests from the biggest names in the game. In a recent interview with the Los Angeles Times, Sade revealed that, despite receiving requests by artists from Drake to Jay-Z, she has never felt comfortable working with anyone other than her own band.

"I'm too scared," the enigmatic singer said of turning down Jay-Z's recent request to collaborate. "They'll find me out. It's like 'The Wizard of Oz.' They'll find out there's nothing there. As for collaborations, I'm collaborating with the band and do what we do. I see myself as a member of this band who does these songs that we write."

An admitted fan of artists like Nas and Raekwon, Sade has only allowed MC's to sample her voice in extremely rare cases, albeit at an extremely fair rate. "When it comes to sample clearances, I'm probably the cheapest chick in the west," she told the Times.

Sade released her sixth album, 'Soldier of Love,' this past February. She also announced her first North American tour in almost a decade, which kicks off in Baltimore on June 16, 2011. We will be in attendance.

@heritic4life - it's not Jay-Z who spreads this word to our youth, that was history.

Sade... stay the hell away from these rap clowns at all cost!!! You are a (stand alone) international ICON who DOES NOT need to be pimped out by street clowns to sing a hook in a damn song!!! Don't mix horse apples with oranges!!! Jay-Z ain't all that... he's just a savvy businessman with the devil on his shoulder!!! He just wants to use you for bragging rights!!!

Sade is too classy for J Zee or anyone else. She's right about her staying with her own band. She doesn't need jz's help, no way. i love Sade's music and singing, it's the best ever.

How many times have you heard about a celebrity turning down a job and someone else steps up & knocks it out the park...Though who's better than Sade at what she does?.... I dare you., Who? Corinne Bailey? Vanessa Williams? Erykah Badu?.. The thing about Jay-Z he knows how to pull a "rabbit out the hat".... What he did with Alicia Keys(empire state)is-a-all-time-hit!!!...

So, you no longer like her, due to her loyalty to her band?? Wow. What a dumb ass YOU are. She can surely do without your sort. Keep your support for Jay-Z. She has enough fans, to do away with you without notice. ;)

good, these hacks don't deserve to have an opportunity to work with someone truly talented like Sade. Let them keep making mind-numbing braindead machine music.
