Matt Lauer Responds to Kanye's 'Today' Show Tweets

In an effort to clear the air, Matt Lauer addressed Kanye West's recent frustration after his 'Today' show interview -- which took place earlier this week -- on air this morning. Lauer's need for an explanation comes after Kanye tweeted that he felt "used" by the morning show, adding that Lauer attempted to "force" his answers.

Known for his rants and temper tantrums, West's issue may garner him some sympathy this time around when factoring in the 'Today' show's need to respond, coupled with the rapper/producer's obvious desire to publicly mend fences. Lauer went on-air to defend what he calls "standard procedure." The "standard procedure" Kanye held issue with -- and comments on during his interview -- is the show's habit of playing video footage of incidents as a point of reference during the interview. The attempt to defend the interview forced the show to air some of the unedited footage, which shows Kanye clearly being annoyed by the footage being played while he talked. "How am I supposed to talk if you're going to run this thing in the middle while I'm talking," Kanye interrupts himself to say to Lauer and the producers. Check out the footage below.

Whether you agree with Kanye or Matt Lauer and the 'Today' show, it's safe to say both George W. Bush and West are getting the publicity they banked on with the help of the morning show. Kanye is scheduled to return to the 'Today' show to perform live on Nov. 26. Hopefully, West will have forgiven Lauer by then and the 'Today' show will have spelled his name right.

It's neither Bush or West that created this. Matt Lauer and the NBC Today Show should be ashamed of themselves. Do you realize that the Today Show devoted over one hour of air time to G. W. Bush so that he could plug his book. His book, an attempt to rewrite history, points out that out of all the disasters and human suffering, a comment by a pop singer was the most disgusting moment in his presidency -- unbelievable! But even more unbelievable is that Matt Lauer would push West to respond to poor George's hurt facial expression that resulted from his comments. Lauer was leading West into an apology! Maybe Lauer should have spent more time pushing Bush to respond to the serious damage done to this country under his leadership. Maybe Bush should have been led into an apology! I'm done watching the Today Show. At least FOX news doesn't try to hide which side of the political fence they're on!

Why would The Today show give Kanye West air time at all? Who cares what that ignoramous has to say?
He should stick to music and keep his opinions to himself. Isn't he embarrasssed at how foolish and egotistic he comes across? Kanya, if you were smart (like you think you are) keep your mouth shut before you have zero fans.

I'm not a fan of this man's music and neither would I find it alluring to listen to his opinions and rantings on network TV ever again. He is an insolent and arrogant human being, but worst of all a "racist"! Shame on him and on NBC for not throwing him off the set. I am an avid viewer but will refrain from watching on Friday. Seriously, enough is enough!

Lauer, you are a SOB! Why don't we see some of your "Glory Moments" being broadcast while you talk? You have never put words in the mouths of anyone you have interviewed. Why attempt to do so now.
Bush, give us a break. After 8 years of your B S, do you really expect us to believe this was your worst moment? You are simply trying to sell your book of lies. I think the state of the nation after your ass left will be remembered as the worst moment for us.

Jazzladd – seems appropriate for your comments. You’ve either been dabbling in the same drugs Billie Holiday and Charlie Parker did or…your just a ‘lad’. An ignorant one at that. Maybe you might take a lesson from Kanye West; reflect more on how much you DON’T know – before you let your mouth and ill-thought out words convict you of being a complete imbecile on the things you THINK you know. Hopefully, you’ll learn to listen and read more (maybe even books authored by people you dislike)…and talk less. If you ever want to be taken seriously; avoid exposing yourself as a fool, right off the bat.
I worked at the State Dept. until recently, and though I disagreed with President Bush, primarily on economic issues; I and every colleague I was associated with, felt the President’s decisions were rooted in his love for this country and never did we question his loyalty or his ability to make informed decisions. And as a war time President…you’d be hard pressed to find a better man to face the circumstances of the uncertainty we faced. He made decisions that were not even popular with the Dept. (i.e. ‘The Surge’). However, he was right and we were wrong, and by the numbers as we say…that war was won by none other than the President. History WILL see this President in a far different light than he’s viewed today, and I think this book allowed the reader to re-think a number of their positions from a much different perspective.
As for Jizzladd and his ilk…well, enjoy…looks like America has reawakened; as evidenced by Nov 2nd. Gotta luv it!
I will agree…snarky Matt is a bit of an SOB. He swings from the left, and am sure he was not happy to have this kid absolving the President for the Katrina fiasco. I think he wanted to embarrass the kid because of it.

Kanye West is either hard-up for ANY publicity he can get and this is the publicity he feels is the best for his career, record sales, and other ventures, OR he simply cannot handle anything that doesn't go his way. He should be able to handle all criticsms and portrayals with an astute and intelligent response, but obviously he is not as calm tempered or as intelligent as our President Barack Obama - who is the Master of intelligent and well thought-out responses to all criticisms.

Mr. West - you are neither "rational" nor "well thought out." Kanye is all about Kanye, and somehow you have the impression that everything revolves around Kanye. You're an idiot, Kanye. Some may appreciate your music. Some will feel that you have talent. I feel that your insecurities and "frustration" (a word that you and others use to describe how you're feeling far too often) have moved you into a delusional world, a world where Kanye does as Kanye pleases without consequences. Former President Bush's statements an the Today show's running tape of your past illogical behavior are part of the consequences you have to pay when acting as you have. Perform your music. Make your money. But please don't attempt to make sweeping statements about social issues. You're not smart enough nor well spoken enough to string two "rational" or "well thought out" sentences together.
