Vybz Kartel Bleaches Skin, Compares Change to a 'Sun Tan'

Reggae artist Vybz Kartel is causing quite an uproar with fans since he appeared in his native Jamaica showcasing a drastically lighter skin color.

The 'Ramping Shop' creator experienced a backlash from loyal supporters after rumors surfaced that the dancehall performer's physical change was a result of using cake soap, a kind of soap used throughout the West Indies to wash white clothes.

"This is my new image," he admits. "You can expect the unexpected. I feel comfortable with black people lightening their skin. They want a different look. It's tantamount to white people getting a sun tan."

Kartel, whose former dark-skinned complexion is displayed in the video for 'Yuh Love,' has recently endorsed the use of cake soap for the skin, although he has yet to admit what agent was used to drastically change his own skin pigment.

Dr. Dhiru Tanna, chairman of Blue Power Group limited, manufacturers of the popular Blue Bommer Cake Soap, has refuted claims that cake soap, also referred to as blue soap, has any lightening effects.

"Blue soap does not bleach," Dr. Tanna reveals. "It has no ingredients in it that damages the skin. If anybody is saying that it will discolour the skin or take off pigmentation that is absolutely not true."

His lyrics may be obsered but they are a part of the Jamaican culture now he is not the only artist to produce vulgure music...GET OVER IT! But be a Jamaican myself I truly have to say I am disgusted and hurt that Vybz along with other Jamaican people want to lighten their skin. Feeling comfortable with yourself is the most important thing and changing the way you isn't going to make the problems you have disappear!

It's easy to agree or disagree with changing ones skin color, when you are white. STFU if you have nasty comments. I think everyone should be able to do what they feel like doing to their body, as long as no one is hurt by the action. This man has physically hurt no one, by lightening his skin tone. I also feel, black is BEAUTIFUL....and hope his change of skin tone is NOT to feel more accepted in this narrow world of thought.

Well, he does have a point. Lightening the skin is not really different from someone with pale skin trying to change their skin color by going to a tanning salon. I don't have to like his music to agree with him.

First it was mools wearing wigs to look white. Now it's bleaching their skin to look white. Don't they remember "black is beautiful"?
