Eminem Too Expensive for 'Glee'

EminemMatt Sayles, AP

Hit musical comedy 'Glee' may be one of the most successful shows on television, but they're not big enough for Eminem. The Fox series, which has built itself into a $500 million dollar brand, has featured performances of popular songs like Rihanna's 'Take a Bow,' Cee-Lo's ubiquitious 'F--- You' and several Billy Joel standards, but Slim Shady's music was reportedly too expensive for the show.

In a candid interview with The Hollywood Reporter, 'Glee' creator Ryan Murphy explained that they had planned to perform Em's '8 Mile' anthem 'Lose Yourself' on the show, but were unable to afford the license, which would have cost them a whopping $200,000.

"We couldn't do it because the episode would've been so over budget," Murphy revealed. In the meantime, fans can look forward to an upcoming re-enactment of Michael Jackson's epic 'Thriller' when 'Glee' makes its highly anticipated return on Feb. 6.

Eminem released his seventh studio album 'Recovery' in June of 2010. The album sold 741,000 copies in its first week and is up for ten Grammys this year, including Best Rap Album and Album of the Year. Despite the album's success Eminem has taken a backseat to touring, only performing half a dozen concerts last year.

I like some of Eminem's songs and Glee's songs too, but this can go both way: Enimem being viewed by Glee fans as a dick and at the same time... it's just $200,000 and Fox has tons of cash, so if they really want to do it, purchase the rights! It's not like Eminem's 100% objecting for his songs to be used. It kinda makes Fox and Glee look like cheapskates for using free songs (I understand why). Not everything has to be free for Glee.

I applaud him n all artist who won't allow glee 2 emasculate their kin. Glee is a ZOMBIE festering off the lost souls of original artist who sold out their souls. If Glee is 4 real stop auto - tuning n write your own songs, and stop conning the gullible like the emperors new clothes.

You guys are really insane. I took the time and pulled up "Hailie's Song" on youtube. Not 5 seconds into the song he used the F word. Then he used it again. Then he says Shit. Then he talks about shoving his penis into.... Oh yeah, a lovely song for his daughter to be so proud of. And if you actually listen to it, the man's voice isn't that good.

Amen, He took what could have been a beautiful song to his daughter and trashed it with bad language and "penis". Get real. Hailie Honey get a new daddy. This one has money but left his morals behind.

It's not the artist fault it's usualy the labels that carry the license for the songs.

I don't think you guys get that Eminem wouldn't want his song on that show. He has enough money he doesn't need to get free advertising. He doesn't want to be associated with that annoying ass show.

What does bad language matter compared to what they SHOW on Glee? A song about someone who is living in the Detroit slums trying to make a better life is preferable to watching teenagers masturbate.

As rappers go, mnm is pretty god, but is simply is not music. It is doggerel set to music which is usually nor even original.

forgot to add, Glee should stick to stuff with a melody and a lyric.
As for the comments about all the singers being studio creations. The stuff is engineered, but the major characters are mostly trained and have no need of Autotune (except occasionally Cory Monteith). But think about it, people like Madonna, Peter Gabriel, Laurie Anderson, Lady Gaga and many others use autotune constantly.
