Kanye West's 'Monster' Music Video Banned by MTV?

Kanye West fans might have to pop open a new browser if they're looking to watch his video for 'Monster.' The clip, which leaked to the Internet in December, has been banned by MTV after feminist groups started a petition claiming that the video perpetuates violence against women and glamorizes misogyny.

The controversial visuals, which depict deceased women next to rappers Jay-Z, Rick Ross and Nicki Minaj, is yet to surface as an official version, though it's got feminist bloggers heated. Activists Sharon Haywood and Melinda Tankard Reist spearheaded a petition demanding that Universal Music Group and MTV pull the clip, nabbing over 1,600 signautres via Change.org.

"The mainstreaming of videos like this increases desensitized and callous attitudes toward violence against women," said Reist. "Young people are seeing images and absorbing harmful messages which glamorise misogyny and brutalise women. Women are reduced to sex-doll like playthings. So great is the level of desensitization that the barbaric treatment of women and girls is seen as normal and to be expected. We decided to run this campaign because we wanted to challenge the status quo."

Kanye most recently faced controversy over his video 'All of the Lights' featuring Rihanna and Kid Cudi. The Chi-town native was asked to re-cut the video so as not to feature as many flashing lights, which epilepsy groups claimed could trigger seizures for afflicted viewers.

You can watch the trailer to the 'Monster' video below. Something tells us that West isn't too bummed about the video getting banned. In January, a story surfaced in the New Yorker that revealed the rapper contracted artist George Condo to create cover artwork for his latest album, 'My Dark Beautiful Twisted Fantasy,' that would excite controversy. 'Ye was rumored to be disappointed when there wasn't a bigger backlash in the media for his final pick.

UPDATE: A spokesperson from MTV contacted The BoomBox with a statement on the issue. "MTV has not banned Kanye West's 'Monster' video," they told The BoomBox. "We have been in constant communication with the label regarding this matter. However, we are still awaiting the edits we requested in order for the video to be suitable for broadcast."

It wouldn't be so bad if it were some rob zombie movie, but because its Kanye West everybody has a damn opinion about a simple music video. Open your f-ing eyes people. There are bigger things to worry about in this world. A Kanye West video is not the biggest threat to our country. It's people like you that makes America seem weak. You put too much time and effort in questioning someone's artistic expression, instead of trying to understand it. Face it. You are not going to like everything that goes on in your lifetime, but if you're going to complain about everything. Just become a hermit and save the world from reading you're silly, whining little comments about nothing. Remember, its a video. When he starts doing this shit for real, then you will have a valid reason to bitch and moan. I'm out!!!

Ok, now i stand by what i said about feeling that there is some kind of dark influence in his music, I am pretty sure that is obvious. HOWEVER what bothers me after rereading all the comments i have seen so far is most of them went from being an actual discussion of the video and his music to just bashing on rappers in general, but more specifically african american rappers. not all of them beat there women and for those of you who claim that they do you are about as ridiculous as kanye and his video. all people make there own decisions and you can't just lump a specific group into one category. for all those out there who are throwing the N word around like its no big deal you should be ashamed of yourselves because you are showing your own ignorance and racial bias. No black person is any less of a human being because of there skin color. garbage like that is whats gonna send this country back into the days when a KKK member would slit your throat because you looked at his wife. This discussion was about Kanye's video, his music, and the influence that it will have on the younger generation. I am 25 and I do listen to some rap but the fact of the matter is i don't listen to garbage like that, there is some rap out the that still has a positive or at least semi-positive message.... it may not be the popular stuff that you hear on the radio everyday but it is there so simply look for it and please y'all lets not make this a race thing nobody need to be slamming Kanye cuz he's black, he still bleeds red just like the rest of us. you may not like his music, or his attitude, but let them man keep his human dignity otherwise he'll never change his ways. I think i have said pretty much what i meant to, so again GOD BLESS Y'ALL , AND KEEP PRAYING (our country needs all the guidance it can get and obviously so do the people who decided to post race based ignorant comments)... No Names, Just Sayin

Kanye and all these no talent black rappers should all be hung from the trees. Its the worst form of 'music' in my lifetime. MTV should also just go away with the crap they put on as entertainment.
