The first, a white tee that retails for $26, features art reminiscent of a painting by Jean-Michel Basquiat. Guru's image is designed in a way that mimics a photocopy and he's surrounded by early hip-hop graffiti scrawls and the phrase "straight from Brooklyn NYC." Another, a black tee, lists the stage names and alter-egos used by Guru through his 25-year tenure as a rapper. These include MC Keithy E and Ill Kid.
Hip-Hop DX reports that all proceeds from the line will go directly to Guru's son K.C. This is the first in a series of tributes and releases that will honor the rapper at the one-year anniversary of his untimely death from cancer at the age of 43.
Of course, the new effort that will interest most fans will be a series of unreleased songs from DJ Premier -- Guru's longtime partner in Gang Starr. According to The Examiner, Premier says he has at least five unreleased songs by the group that are ready for public ears.
