Eminem's 2002 Album, 'The Eminem Show,' Goes Diamond

If you've been following the music industry over the last decade, you already know that earning a platinum record (one million sold) takes a perfect combination of hits, hype and marketing. Going diamond, which is selling 10 million, is nearly unthinkable outside of legacy artists such as Michael Jackson. Yet Eminem somehow has done it again. The ever-popular Detroit rapper just scored his second diamond disc with 2002's 'The Eminem Show' nearly a decade after it was originally released.

The RIAA confirms the diamond certification for the disc as of March 7, 2011. Em, real name Marshall Mathers, also scored a diamond record for his breakout 'Marshall Mathers LP,' which was released back in 2000. His next closest, 'Encore,' sits around 7 million sold, while his most recent effort 'Recovery' is inching closer to 4 million total sales in less than a year.

'The Eminem Show,' the rapper's fourth solo LP, features hits like 'Without Me,' 'Cleanin' Out My Closet' and the Aerosmith-sampling 'Sing for the Moment.' It also featured a more reflexive and lighthearted persona for the rapper. While previous efforts had focused on how the outside world had messed-up Em's life outlook, 'The Eminem Show' was his first disc to really examine the concept of celebrity and what it was like to live inside the mind of America's most controversial rapper at the time.

As a middle-aged heavy Rock fan from PA., I need to say that I am " Truly impressed with Eminem,s natural style & talent. He is "unusual " for sure,, but the man certanley delivers, in a BIG WAY.

Eminem just proves that you don't need an audience with brains to have them make you a millionaire. If this is talent, then the word has taken on a whole new meaning. Crap, I mean, Rap music is not music at all.

Some of u people are so wacked!! I love Eminem. Not only is he a fine piece of speciman but he has great talent. Someone said he is full of hate, @least he isnt a gangbanger out committing crimes and doing drugs. So what he is an evil person cause he was tired of livin in poverty and did something about it? Oh yeah he succeeded and will always have more money than any of us could ever dream about. So how u like them oranges :)~

Selling 10 million copies of an album is almost unthinkable? Without even looking them up I'll throw out a list of artists who have probably sold at least 10 million copies of a single album and I won't bother to mention MJ since they did.

I'm sure there are many more. This is great company to be in but the author would lead you to believe this accomplishment is virtually "unthinkable" which it's clearly not.

Really? Because EVERY type of music out there has a drum beat. Weather played by a real instrument or a digital one, it is what keeps time in the song and what the lyrics are written to. Not only is this a very ignorant statement but should have been thought out a little more before you clicked the "add comment" button to save yourself from looking like a complete idiot. You are saying that anyone could do any song from any artists ever made and music itself is pretty much insufficient.

Being the best white rapper, in a sea of crap, is quite an accomplishment. I like Marshall and i have enjoyed some of his "music" but in the scheme of things most of it is just garbage. I dont understand how they can make so much money off this #@$#@ .I admit I am old school and dont see the allure of these people so i am jaded. I just believe music should be uplifting and joyful. Not full of racism and hatred.

What an ignorant thing to say. Whether you like Eminem or not doesn't matter but why would you say music should be uplifting and joyful? Music, in any format, is an expression of yourself therefore it reflects how you feel and the message you want to express. It should express lots of things and make you feel many ways. Racism, really? Your post makes references to more racism and hate than 99% of the music out right now. I bet you want to burn books too. Obviously people relate more to hardships in life than joy or the Backstreet Boys would be outselling Eminem. Winning!
