Television personality, La La Anthony acted as host, as the two headliners performed on opposing stages participating in various musical challenges, both rehearsed and improvised, to showcase their musical abilities. The "exercise in musicianship" was broken up into five rounds including "the warm up" in which both acts performed three songs, "the cover," pitting both acts against one another with a performance of the same song, and "the clash" which challenged the bands to performing their songs in three brand new styles.

In a joint venture with the MGM Resorts International, fans were treated to a series of official Red Bull Soundclash pre-parties, while Studio 54 played host to the official Red Bull Soundclash after party featuring performances by the Glitch Mob and DJ Mick Boogie.
