On Friday (April 29), the 23-year-old singer-songwriter tweeted his frustrations following a run-in with the LAPD, which landed him behind bars, but by Sunday (May 1), he was singing a different tune after locking in some studio time with Pharrell.
In his usual short-form style, the New Orleans native tweeted the news writing "the pharrell harmonizations. swag," later adding "my weekend was rad af." Photos of the studio sessions were posted on Pharrell's Billionaire Boys Club Ice Cream blog. This makes Frank Ocean the second OFWGKTA member (following leader Tyler, the Creator) to end up in the studio with the Neptunes producer, who also hopped onstage during Odd Future's Coachella set this year.
After releasing his debut album, 'Nostalgia, Ultra' via Tumblr in February, Ocean has continued to build a steady buzz. In March, he scored some studio time with Beyonce and earlier this month he teamed up with Nas to create new music, writing "Just played nas a song...on piano. in that moment i realized, I'm getting a lil better at piano. i gotta keep practicing though. yea. nas. like 'top 5 dead or alive' nas."
Ocean is currently signed to Def Jam Records but has not released an official album through the major label. He is at work on his follow-up LP in addition to penning tracks for other artists.
