Drawing over 500,000 attendees each year, Philly's Fourth of July Jam, presented by Wawa Welcome America, is poised to be the biggest event yet, having partnered with musical director Questlove and Philly Mayor Michael A. Nutter to create a two-day celebration for the City of Brotherly Love's music fans.
Featuring a selection of Questo's favorite acts, with 25 artists from a variety of genres, the music festival kicks off on July 3 with several events, including DJ sets by Diplo, Jazzy Jeff, DJ Spinna, J Rocc and Questlove himself, and performances by MC Dom Kennedy with Cassey Veggies and local indie artists Working Drugs, CSLSX and Wrestling.
On the 4th of July, the Roots will headline the main stage alongside legendary acts Earth, Wind and Fire, Michael McDonald and Estelle, Sara Bareilles and Jazzy Jeff, performing together in typical Roots jam session style, along with a special tribute to the 40th Anniversary of Gamble and Huff's Philadelphia International Records.
"I have been attending the fireworks and the concert on the Parkway in Philly since I was a kid," Questlove said in a statement about this year's event. "I have had the pleasure to perform on the main stage over the past two years and truly understand the impact this event has on the city and can potentially have on the world. July 4th should be to Philadelphia what New Year's Eve is to Times Square in New York City. That is the kind of excitement we are aiming to bring to Philly this year and in years to come."
