Controversial singer M.I.A. has leaked an unfinished demo entitled '27,' in honor of singer Amy Winehouse, who died this past weekend, at 27.

Over the minimal, doleful track, the Sri Lankan singer intones a melancholy rumination on "all my friends that died at 27," a nod to both her personal acquaintances and the infamous "27 Club," which includes Jimi Hendrix, Kurt Cobain, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison and many others who died at the same age, frequently under suspicious circumstances.

"All rock stars go to heaven/ You said you'll be dead at 27," M.I.A. mournfully sings. "You blew that money on a mountain of drugs/ And staged your self a bed-in/ A month later when I popped in/ You're still high but the winter set in."

While she leaked the song on Saturday (July 23), the same day the world learned the sad news of Winehouse's death, M.I.A. revealed that the song was a holdover from her 'Vicki Leekx' mixtape, which dropped in December.

"i recorded this song B4 vickileekx and never put it out. its a unfinished demo," the 'Paper Planes' singer tweeted. "R.I.P A.M.Y."
