Hov's Rocawear fashion imprint and Pharrell's BBC clothing house will unite, utilizing the business acumen of the Brooklyn rhymer and Skateboard P's keen creativity. Where GQ originally reported that Jay "owns the licensing to manufacture and distribute Billionaire Boys Club," the 'Watch the Throne' collaborator took to his Twitter to clear up the discrepancy.
"Partnering with @4real4rell on BBC" follow him.. (Not "buying" as GQ erroneously reported.)," he tweeted.
Jay-Z, born Shawn Carter, sold the rights to Rocawear for $204 million to the Iconix Brand Group in 2007. However, he retained a stake in the apparel brand. Jigga man still holds a position overseeing licensing, marketing and product development.
It's no surprise the Rocawear and BBC lines differ in their sensibilities, with the former being more affordable and selling in department stores along the lines of Macy's and in mall stores, while Billionaire Boys Club is found at high-end retailers, going as high as $300 for hooded sweatshirts.
