While the numbers, as derived by Nielsen SoundScan sales data, are not yet in on the 19-year-old Wiz Khalifa protégé's debut, the album is being projected to sell upwards of 100,000 copies in its first week.
The last time an indie rap act achieved such a coup was almost exactly 16 years ago, on Nov. 18, 1995, when Tha Dogg Pound's 'Dogg Food' sold approximately 278,000 records via Death Row, which was distributed independently by Priority Records.
Mac Miller's debut was released by Rostrum Records (the same label that signed Wiz Khalifa), and is distributed by INgrooves through Fontana Distribution, a subsidiary of Universal Music Group. The album is produced almost entirely by Miller's in house production team I.D. Labs, and does not have any guest features.
"I have some jams where you're like, 'Hell Yeah, these are great to get high to,'" Mac said of 'Blue Slide Park,' in an interview with XXL. "These songs are great to f--- a bitch to. These songs are great for you to sit by yourself and think about some shit. These songs are good for you just to hear someone rap they ass off, so for you to box me into one type of thing is like you kinda being an idiot."
