Kafani Shooting: Rapper's One-Year-Old Cousin in Coma

Bay Area apper Kafani has denied involvement in an Oakland shooting which left eight wounded yesterday (Nov. 28), including a one-year-old boy, who was shot in the head, and is currently in a coma.

The shooting, which occurred just after 6PM on Monday evening, was said to have taken place in a liquor store parking lot during a video shoot for Kafani, where over 50 shots were fired at a crowd of people, hitting eight and leaving a van bearing the rapper's likeness riddled with bullets.

While Kafani has denied ownership of the van, and claims he had nothing to do with the video shoot, the boy, Hiram Lawrence, has been revealed to be his cousin's son.

In an interview with NBC Bay Area, the rapper explained that his cousin "had his son in his hands, and somebody started shooting ... I think the bullet that hit him in the hand is what hit his son in the head."

While Kafani has not offered much explanation regarding the shooting, he did reveal that his cousin's little son is in a coma, after undergoing surgery overnight at Children's Hospital in Oakland.

"Right now now lil cuz in coma but both sides of brain seems to be functioning right now pray pls," he tweeted just minutes ago.

Although the condition of the other victims is currently unknown, police have said that their injuries to not appear to be life-threatening. They have not revealed whether they have any leads in the shooting.

In August, Kafani, who was under house arrest at the time, made a series of threats against controversial 'I'm Gay' rapper Lil B.

This article is inaccurate. This was not Kafani's video shoot. The only reason why he is being lumped in all of this is because his promotional van was there. He was not present. I hope you update this article.

I say all this because this article implies that Kafani had something to do with it, which is not true. Let's not unnecessarily vilify people. I also hope you address the rampant racism in the comments section of this article. Its disgusting. People should be ashamed of themselves. A baby was shot in the head and all people can do is make racist jokes. Violence in poor black communities happen for a reason. The are no quality schools, jobs, or recreation. There are no job training programs, no drug rehab programs. There are no resources. People are suffering. Crime happens because that's the only way people know how to survive. Let's critically think about these circumstances before we start placing blame on people. I don't condone violence but what happened in West Oakland last night is a reflection of the society that we live in. A society that enslaved people, treated them as second class citizens, and now denies them any resources to better themselves. So yeah you can blame it on the "thugs" if you want. But I blame it on the politicians who fail to come up with creative ways to lift people out of poverty. I blame it on the business people who continue to deny people a living wage. And I blame it on people like the racists who are commenting on this article, who internalize inhumane ideologies that just honestly make you all look stupid. And I can already anticipate the responses. They're "lazy and no good." Please, black people have been working for hundreds of years in this country, and most of it without pay, and don't have a dime to show for it. These comments just reflect the sad sad state of this country.

Rap and hip hop artists are their own worst enemies. If you choose to embrace thug culture, you or those around you sooner or later become victims of that culture.

Not surprisingly, all the spectators watching the video shoot were uncooperative with the police. Because of that mentality, a potential child killer is walking the streets. Shame, shame.

I'm a "liberal" and I'm in complete agreement with you. Music can be a positive uplifting influence on peoples lives, but if you choose to embrace the gangster lifestyle, you or your family will, sooner or later become victims of that lifestyle.

Yeah ...I say the same thing when I hear of so many cases of child sexual assault / abuse , the most horendous types of murders , and kids killing their own parents over the mosy ubsurd reasons ... Funny , the race that does this the most aren't black .
