Whitney Houston Dead: Singer Dies at 48, Body Found in Beverly Hilton Hotel

UPDATE: CNN reports that Houston's body was found in her room at the Beverly Hilton hotel by her bodyguard. Attempts to resuscitate the singer were made by emergency personnel but she did not respond. Her body still remains at the hotel. Beverly Hills Police Lt. Mark Rosen said that Houston was pronounced dead 3:55PM PST in her room on the fourth floor. "There were no obvious signs of any criminal intent at this time," Rosen states.

Reports also reveal that Whitney Houston's mother spoke to her 20 to 35 minutes before she died. Veteran singer Dionne Warwick, Houston's cousin, was in contact with her Saturday, speaking about which table they would sit at during Clive Davis' annual Grammy party later that evening.

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Whitney Houston, who reigned as pop music's queen until her majestic voice and regal image were ravaged by drug use, has died. She was 48.

Publicist Kristen Foster said Saturday that the singer had died, but the cause and the location of her death were unclear.

At her peak in the 1980s and '90s, Houston the golden girl of the music industry and one of the world's best-selling artists.

Among her hits were "How Will I Know," ''Saving All My Love for You" and "I Will Always Love You." She won multiple Grammys including album and record of the year.

Her success carried her beyond music to movies like "The Bodyguard."

But by the end of her career, drug use took its toll as her record sales plummeted and her voice became raspy and hoarse.

Why is Whitney's death a "shock"? Another good example of too much too soon...Whitney was blessed with a beautiful voice, but where did her influences come from? Why hasn't Etta James been credited and immortalized for HER contributions? Who has grieved for Etta? Yeah, a short blurb in the papers for Etta, but Whitney's short and self-abusive life is on a pedestal. Yeah, they both had "problems", but whose music will stand the test of time?

Wow..... This is shocking to hear that Whitney is gone, she aged very beautifully, she did have a lot of talent, before she had been taking drugs. And I felt bad that she passed away, and she had been famous, for her success in her talent. And now since she's gone, we still have her in our memories.

Whitney Houston was a money machine for people like Clive Davis. Unfortunately she was worked to death! May her god-gifted spirit rest in peace! There are way too many people waiting in a long line to pay with their lives for a piece "celebrity"! Did Witney Houston really have bodyguards or did she have financial overseers. No one should be used up like that. When God uses you, it always turn out for good. When another man uses you, your family will be destroyed and everyone around you will feel the pain!

You people who sit and judge Whitney"s life, who are you to sit and judge??? Shame on you!!! If you have nothing nice to say then say nothing at all. How perfect you must think you and your lives are that you can say the things that you do. How difficult it must be to be an entertainer and have the success that people like Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston and countless others have had, To have everyone watch, photograph and criticize your every move. To have tabloids commenting on how your aging, your weight or if you do or don"t have " IT " anymore. They go through all of this merely to have the pleasure of entertaining you. It seems more and more people thrive on the negative, waiting for you to fall. Bad news spreads twice as fast as good. It's no wonder they turn to alcohol and drugs when after all their only trying to please haters such as you.
