Tupac, Coachella: Late Rapper Appears as Hologram During Snoop Dogg's Set -- Video

Thanks to the magic of technology, the most talked-about performance at this year's Coachella festival came from a man who died more than 15 years ago. Last night (April 15), as Snoop Dogg closed out the three-day Southern California event, slain hip-hop icon Tupac Shakur appeared in hologram form, busting a solo "Hail Mary" and teaming with Snoop on "2 of Amerikaz Most Wanted."

"What the f--- is up, Coachella?!" asked the eerily realistic 'Pac, who arrived shirtless, rocking a crucifix chain, sagging jeans and work boots.

Pac's "resurrection" has been met with mixed responses, as some critics find the beyond-the-grave theatrics creepy and exploitative. Of course, those same charges have dogged the rapper -- or perhaps more correctly, his estate -- for years, as he's released countless posthumous albums, leading some conspiracy theorists to believe he faked his own death.

Also on hand for Snoop's star-studded set were such living, breathing rhymers as Dr. Dre, Eminem, Wiz Khalifa, 50 Cent and hotly tipped newcomer Kendrick Lamar.

That was absolutely magnificent! 2Pac coming back on stage like that is just sheer genius! The graphics person should get a BIG ASS bonus for that. And so what, if his music is released after his death. His mom got her son's rights to his songs back and she is doing the right thing with his estate. She has set up a school of the arts in Georgia; she is doing positive things for young people and quite frankly, it's a lot more than some people who are able to do and don't give back.
2Pac was an artist. A creator of flow like no other.

This was absolutely phenomenal and shows the brilliance technology can bring to art. It is through art that we can carry on the legends of the most brilliant performers and minds of our time. What a tribute this was to a legendary hip hop artist. You can see some more 2Pac art on my artist’s blog with a surreal illustration I made in memoriam recently at http://dregstudiosart.blogspot.com/2011/09/in-memoriam-tupac-shakur.html
