Mary J. Blige Says Burger King Commercial Was a Childhood Dream, 'Crushed' by Final Edit

Mary J. Blige was at the center of controversy in April when her Burger King commercial debuted. The R&B singer stayed fairly quiet despite the Internet world bashing her for singing a jingle about the fast food chain's crispy chicken snack wraps. Now she's giving details on how she truly felt about the clip and how the backlash has affected her.

The "Mr. Wrong" songstress chatted with Angie Martinez about the commercial, explaining that it "broke my heart" to see the final edit and read all of the ridicule.

"I wanted to crawl under the bed," she said of the video, which she found while surfing the 'net for her remix to Fat Joe's "Another Round." "It was a mistake... It was sold to us that I would be shot in an iconic way. I was looking for someone to have mercy, but no one had mercy. It was a learning experience. It hurt my feelings. It crushed me for like two days."

She was able to identify "fair-weather" friends who were "popping junk" upon the commercial's release. But she understood where all of the criticism came from and offered a heartfelt apology.

"I want to apologize to everyone that was offended or thought that I would do something so disrespectful to our culture," Blige revealed. "I would never do anything like that purposely. I thought I was doing something right, so forgive me."

Her decision to take part in the Burger King ad was based on a childhood dream. "At the end of the day, it's something I always wanted to do and dreamed about and that's why I did it," she shared.
