In the statement, which was obtained by HollywoodLife.com and the NY Post, among various outlets, Brown reveals that he does not want to "hurt" Karrueche while maintaining a "friendship " with Rihanna.
"I have decided to be single to focus on my career," Brown says in the statement. "I love Karrueche very much but I don't want to see her hurt over my friendship with Rihanna. I'd rather be single allowing us to both be happy in our lives."
The breakup comes after Rihanna and the "Turn Up the Music" crooner spent the week hanging out in public view. Last night (Oct. 3), the pair attended a Jay-Z concert at the newly opened Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y. Earlier this week (Oct. 1), they were apparently caught canoodling on the dance floor at Griffin nightclub in Manhattan and disappeared into a nearby bathroom stall for about 20 minutes. The following day (Oct. 2), witnesses revealed they saw Brown leaving the Gansevoort Park Hotel, where the Talk That Talk creator was staying.
