Bryan Norwood, Chief of the Police Department in Richmond, VA reportedly vouched for Chris by writing a letter stating that he'd completed all of his community service, when in fact, he had not.
Richmond Mayor Dwight Jones says a mutual agreement was reached between his office and Norwood, and that ultimately the former would be resigning.
Brown insists he's completed his community service and the judge in the case is still trying to verify the hours completed.
Still, the resignation could have less to do with Brown than Norwood angling for a top job in another state.
The Richmond Times-Dispatch suggests that "the relationship between Norwood and Richmond Mayor Dwight C. Jones had become strained well before it became public last month that Norwood was seeking the [police] chief's job in Raleigh, N.C."
As for the embattled singer, he crashed his Porsche into a wall on Saturday (Feb. 9) trying to escape the paparazzi.
