LL Cool J, Grammys 2013: Rapper Releases Song He Performed at Award Show

LL Cool J closed the 2013 Grammy Awards with Chuck D, Tom Morello, Travis Barker and Z-Trip. Now he's releasing the song he performed.

"Whaddup" features all the aforementioned and is from Uncle L's new album, Authentic, due in stores May 7.

Because CBS cut the performance off during the Grammys, it was hard to tell whether or not the song was any good. Younger fans were probably scratching their heads -- why is the guy from NCIS rapping? -- while old folks were likely glad to see hip-hop finally get some shine.


But sometimes it's best to hear a new song removed from the celebratory manner in which it's revealed. That said, "Whaddup" is actually pretty good. But don't let us sway you. Take a listen and let us know what you think.

I don't wathc the Grammys so I did not see this performance, but have been an LL fan the majority of my life since "Rock the Bells". Yeah he's a big actor now but just find a Youtube video of him when he was the musical guest on "Saturday Night Live" way back in the early nineties he did the great little diddy "I'M Bad" but watch him at the end of the show when all the stars and the musical guests come onstage together, and he is just muggin for the camera like " look at me I'm a star now" you were then and you are now LL Its just funny how starry eyed he was at that time. And I would put money on you in the ring against Rick Ross, Birdman and little Wayne together, the whole A$AP Mob whatever, rappin or scrappin. But quit shavin your chest.

@Gregory So true. Suit and Tie is garbage. I say Whaddup any day . The show was banging. Travis Barker is nasty as hell too. Unc is Back .

I had the TV on mute, so got the full effect of lyrics such as "We goan cut U up, homeboy," and "Kick down yo door, put duh weapon to yo jaw..."
I was underwhelmed.
