"It just seems like amazing work that they're doing in up there in the Bronx, and it's also work that doesn't get that much attention," Adam "Ad-Rock" Horovitz told Spinner of why they wanted to participate in the show. The rappers set the audience off with classics like 'Remote Control,' 'Root Down' and 'Sure Shot,' while inciting a mosh pit during their final song, 'Sabotage.' The trio also used the night to discuss plans for their new forthcoming album of original material, while the vocal version of 'The Mix-Up' is still in the works. "We're kind of handing it off to other vocalists and letting them submit stuff, so the ball is in their court," Yauch said. "But we did get a spoken word thing back from Jarvis Cocker and a spoken word thing back from Snoop. M.I.A. recorded something at our studio and then took it with her, but hasn't given it to us." ...

Vandalism at Tupac Shakur Arts Center Treated as Hate Crime

Two incidents of vandalism at the Tupac Amaru Shakur Center for the Arts are being investigated as hate crimes by the De Kalb County Sheriff's office near Atlanta. Vandals defaced the building and tied a noose around the neck of a bronze statue of the late rapper on the morning of October 20. The statue was further damaged in a second incident on Monday morning. An unidentified male has been arrested for the crimes. Afeni Shakur, Tupac's mother, made the following statement regarding the incidents: "We thank everyone for their prayers and support. Although our hearts are temporarily in pain, our spirits have already forgiven the perpetrators. Hate comes in all colors and genders therefore we will use this act of hate and ignorance to bring our community together and to pray for the healing of those who harbor such feelings. With God's guidance, the work of the Tupac Amaru Shakur Center for the Arts and Peace Garden will continue to positively impact and transform our community." ...

Video of the Day: Jennifer Lopez, 'Do It Well'

Artist: Jennifer Lopez Song: 'Do It Well' Why You Should Watch: In the video for the first single from her new album, 'Brave,' J. Nearly 20,000 fans lost their minds when, while Jay-Z and T.I. helped West perform 'Can't Tell Me Nothing,' 50 ran on stage suspending any notions of rivalry. The evening's highlight was a performance of Jay-Z's 'Encore,' which compelled the entire audience to throw up their diamonds -- the Roc sign.
What is your recording process like?

When I'm getting ready to record a new album, I basically try to be in creative mode. I'm not just creating a song, but trying to come up with a creative concept. I have to stay interested in the music. I'm a melodic person so a lot of times, I listen to the track and then decide what it's telling me to say in the hook. I like to do a lot of sing-song type hooks. That sets the direction for each song. And with the album, I just try to do something different than I did last time.

'Ridin' touched on police profiling. What type of issues will you cover on your new album?

On the new album, 'Ultimate Victory,' I'm talking about a lot of current events [including] the controversy surrounding the "N" word and hip-hop in general, the war, my view on politics and a lot of little hidden gems. That's been my whole goal: to try to get people to know Chamillionaire, the man behind the name. It's hard getting people to make a connection with an artist nowadays. I want people to connect with me. Last time, I had some deeper messages in a couple of songs and people never remember them. They remember the ringtone songs or the singles. This time I made the whole album moral, so that if you listen to the album, you get the idea.

What do you say to those who believe southern hip-hop isn't lyrical enough?

Well, I guess there's a lot of ammunition out there. There's a lot of songs that come out of the South that are pretty simple, but that's generalizing a region. It's crazy that people would think that everyone [from the South] is one-track minded and simple. Of course major labels sign a lot of acts that do the same kind of music, but there's more out there. And I'm definitely one of the artists that's trying to prove that.

Producers Hold Open Casting for the Notorious B.I.G. Producers for the upcoming Notorious B.I.G. biopic will hold an open casting call to find an actor for the lead role of the slain rapper, born Christopher Wallace. Audition videos can be submitted to www.foxsearchlight.com/notorious or www.biggiecasting.com, beginning Sunday, Aug. 12 at 3 am. 'Notorious' will be produced by Biggie's mother, Voletta Wallace, and his two former managers, Wayne Barrow and Mark Pitts. "As it relates to the individual Christopher Wallace -- his looks, his stature, what he represented, the swagger, the sensibility of the man -- all those elements are very difficult to find, no matter where you go," Barrow said to the AP.
Voletta Wallace echoed Barrow's sentiments. "There will only be one Christopher Wallace, but I'm happy that his legacy will open a door for another to walk through," she said. "I don't want you to just imitate him. I want to see his swagger, his style, his energy and smile come through."

The Chicago-based Grammy nominee took time out from promoting 'Finding Forever' to talk to PopEater about the new album and how he's evolved over his 15-year career. Read the full interview after the jump. ...

Tell us about 'Finding Forever.'
'Finding Forever' is my new album, which is coming out July 31. I entitled it 'Finding Forever' because I thought about making music that would be here forever. Music that would be timeless and ageless, and would be able to go for generations beyond my physical existence. As I thought of that title, I began to think about forever for all of us -- finding our purpose in life and what our legacy would be, what will our contribution be and how we will be remembered. That's what "finding forever" meant for me; just finding that place where I can create something that will be memorable and timeless throughout life.

How is Common of 2007 different from the Common Sense of 1994?
Common Sense is definitely a part of me still. It's who I was, and I evolved. Common Sense is this little cat who was rolling really fresh off the block from Chicago. Out getting drunk, kicking it, fighting, partying and doing different things but still had a good heart. I still feel some of that youth and fun, and that spirit still exists in me, but I believe that Common evolved once they took the name away. It was a big turning point for me. A group using the name Common Sense tried to sue me for the name in '96 or '95, and when that happened a lot of different things were happening to me in my life that were allowing me to evolve, and that was one of them. Now when I look at Common myself, I say, "Dang, I'm just this dude who's been growing and evolving, but has just been open to change." All of it is still connected, but you always want to grow and want to become better, and I feel like I have grown and opened my mind up to a lot more things. But that's the difference between Common and Common Sense, but I still want people to know I'm Common Sense forever.

How important is lyricism to you?
Lyricism in hip-hop is very important. To be able to rap is a blessing; it's a gift. To get up on the microphone and let your voice be heard by millions of people is an opportunity. Lyricism is important because you're using that opportunity wisely. When you get this time and this gift and this microphone in front of you, what can you say that's original, that's true to you, that has some creativity and imagination in it? That's what lyricism is about. It sparks the minds of the listeners. I think hip-hop was always about inspiring the people, and I think lyricism ties into that inspiration. We need lyricism in hip-hop.

Now, folks can rest their pretty little heads. People confirmed with Furtado's 'Loose' producer, Timbaland, that the Canadian singer-songwriter is indeed engaged to her sound engineer boyfriend, Demacio "Demo" Castellon. This will be her first marriage.
In July 2006, the 28-year-old Grammy-winner told Blender that she had a "secret boyfriend" of eight months. "I just don't really talk about it," she said. "It's nobody famous or anything."
Furtado has a three-year-old daughter, Nevis, with DJ/producer Jasper "Lil' Jaz" Gahunia. ...

Andre 3000 Goes to the Head of the 'Class'

Andre 3000 is officially kid-tested and mom-approved -- well, for the most part. The Outkast member brought his animated children's series 'Class of 3000' to the Cartoon Network last year, and this week, Andre released the show's soundtrack, 'Class of 3000: Music Volume One.' The album features fourteen songs -- each written and produced by Andre -- that incorporate the rapper's eclectic flavor of gospel, jazz, R&B, soul, funk and reggae. Among the new tunes are 'Oh Peanut,' 'Banana Zoo,' 'Fight the Blob' and 'The Crayon Song.' In addition to executive producing the show, Andre also lends his voice to the character Sunny Bridges, a musician who gave up his career to teach gifted musical students. The second season of the popular series premiered last month. ...

Linkin Park's Environmental Projekt Revolution

Linkin Park are no strangers to the green scene. Following the 2004 Southeast Asia tsunami tragedy, the group founded Music for Relief, an environmentally conscious organization that calls upon the music community fight global warming. Continuing with their efforts, and just on the heels of Live Earth, this year's Projekt Revolution tour will place its emphasis on environmental education. "Let's say the worst case scenario is that there is no connection [between global warming and natural disasters], and it's just the way that the world is moving and we're not contributing to it," Bennington said at a press conference last week. "But at the same time, what's the worst thing that could happen? We'd have cleaner air, less greenhouse gases going into the atmosphere and people are using less energy." ...

Projekt Revolution and Music for Relief will donate $1 from each ticket sold this summer to American Forests' Global ReLeaf program, which plants trees to reduce global temperatures.

"We're going to try to plant over a million trees during this touring cycle," Bennington said. "By raising awareness as much as possible, encouraging people to make simple changes in their life and showing them how by offering information at the tour, we can make a difference. If at the end of the day all we did was plant a bunch of trees, that's cool with me."

The 28-year-old First Lady of the Ruff Ryders documents her evolution on her fourth solo album -- the first in five years -- 'Here I Am.' "I'm definitely more mature, and I think people will be able to hear it on the record," the rapper told PopEater during her Sessions taping. "I named the album 'Here I Am' because that's the way that I feel -- I'm back and giving people exactly who I am one million percent. I've never actually been in that place in my life -- where I'm actually okay with all the s*** that makes up Eve. 'Here I am' sounds kind of cheesy, but it's true." ...
Eve's maturation is not only reflected in her new album, which hits shelves on Aug. 7, but equally as much in the look of her new Fetish collection, due this fall. "It was a juvenile line -- well, a juniors' line -- and it was a line that I didn't want to support because I just didn't think it looked right on me," she says. "So, now that I have new partners, we went from my closet and, in a way, [designed] the kind of stuff that I actually buy. My style has evolved. I've grown. I'm a woman now."

Come back on Aug. 3 to watch Eve's Sessions performance.
