Jay-Z Sets Up Educational Trust Fund for Sean Bell's Children

Hip hop mogul Jay-Z has reportedly established an educational trust fund for the children of Sean Bell, who was gunned down by three New York police detectives just hours before his wedding. According to reports, the rap star and Bell's fiance Nicole Bell have been working together to iron out the details of the charitable fund.

Last week, a New York judge acquitted the detectives who fired the 50 shots that took Bell's life. Rappers the Game, Papoose and Joell Ortiz recorded songs to express their discontent with the shocking verdict. Jay-Z has not released a statement regarding the verdict or trust fund.

The Game Channels West Coast Vets on '911 Is a Joke'

The Game sounds off on his new track '911 Is a Joke (Cop Killa),' which borrows it's title from Public Enemy's 1990 hit. Taking a cue from fellow West Coast acts N.W.A., who released the controversial track 'F--- Tha Police' as a form of protest against racial profiling and police brutality in 1988, and Ice T's 'Cop Killer,' the Game is sounding off in response to the acquittal of three New York police officers who shot and killed 23-year-old Sean Bell hours before his wedding day.

"911 Is A Joke" is also slated to appear on the rapper's upcoming album, 'L.A.X (Los Angeles Times),' which is due in stores on July 8.

The Game Dedicates '911 Is a Joke' to Sean Bell

The Game speaks out against police brutality and the recent Sean Bell verdict on the new track '911 is a Joke,' which the rap star will premiere on his new website ThisizGame.com. "I'm outraged and speaking out for my generation that are afraid to speak out against police brutality and murder," the Game said in a recent interview.

No stranger to gang violence and communities often struggling with poor relationship with the police, the Game knows all too well how it feels to fear authorities. "I grew up in Compton and had to stay silent because of the fear that was prevalent in my community, but now that I have a voice I'm speaking out," the rapper said.

The rapper dedicates the new track to Bell, who was shot 50 times by three New York City detectives on his wedding day. "This could have easily been me, my brother, my family. So this song is for Sean Bell from my heart," the Game explained. "My deepest condolences goes out to his family and wife, Nicole Bell."

Sean Bell Verdict Inspires '50 Bullets' Reaction Song

Three NYPD detectives accused of killing 23-year-old Sean Bell, who was flooded with 50 bullets on his wedding day, were acquitted of all charges. The shocking verdict has sparked outrage among Bell's family and friends, as well as the New York community.

While many have chosen to gather together and protest what is being considered an injustice, Constanza Francavilla, a Brooklyn resident originally of Rome, Italy, penned a song, titled '50 Bullets Fired in Queens,' as a reaction to the shooting. The trip hop song, which will be featured on her forthcoming album, 'Sonic Diary,' can be heard here.

Levert's Family Asks FBI to Investigate His Death

The family of R&B singer Sean Levert wants the FBI to look into his death following a medical emergency in jail. The family is questioning the methods used by the prison guards on the night of Levert's sudden death.

According to Cuyahoga County jail warden Kevin McDonough, Levert was pounding on his cell door, which resulted in the guards strapping the 39-year-old in a restraint chair in the psychiatric ward. "Our medical people were called and got him to the hospital," McDonough said in a statement. Michael Gibson, Levert's cousin, questions McDonough's account of the events that took place that night.

The 39-year-old Levert died Sunday night at a hospital after he was taken from the county jail where he was serving a one year and 10 months sentence for failure to pay more than $80,000 in child support.
