Big Sean isn't the wide-eyed, earnest MC that he was a few short years ago -- too much has happened since then. The Detroit rapper is currently preparing his sophomoric effort under the G.O.O.D. Shortly after President Obama spoke out in support of gay marriage, and hip-hop mogul Jay-Z publicly endorsed the message, rapper Yitz "Y-Love" Jordan has come out as gay.

"I feel like I have wasted years of my life worrying that my 'public reputation' will be negatively impacted by my identity," Y-Love told Out magazine. "Now that I'm over 30, I simply can't care as much about what people think, despite the prospect of alienating the community I dedicated my life to as an artist and a man. My hope is it will open their eyes -- and hearts," Jordan, 34, said.

The New York-based MC is of Puerto Rican and Ethiopian descent, and converted to Hasidic Judaism in 2000. While he previously feared his sexual orientation would alienate his "conservative-minded" fan base, Y-Love insists he's "never been conflicted about my sexuality ... Any conflicts that have come up in my life have come up because of other people's homophobia. I've always known when to be in the closet and when not to."

For Jordan, the time to come out was long overdue. "I'm ready to live authentically," he admitted. "I'm ready to find a husband," Jordan continued. Jay Electronica's label boss Jay-Z has promised that his protege's long-awaited Roc Nation debut Act II: Patents of Nobility (The Turn) is finally "really close" to seeing release.

Mac Miller has worked with some true hip-hop heavies, among them Lil Wayne and Cam'ron -- both guests on his Macadelic mixtape -- but there was something extra special about his recent team-up with Bobby Stewart, aka Yung Ka.

Hailing from Fox Chapel, Penn., a suburb of Miller's native Pittsburgh, the 18-year-old rapper suffers from T-cell lymphoma, a life-threatening cancer that informs many of his lyrics. On Monday (May 14), Stewart visited Miller's ID Labs studios, where he had the opportunity to collaborate with the hometown rap star.

One of the perks of making it big is being able to go home again and help someone else. Big Sean had that opportunity on Monday morning (May 14), when he flew into his native Detroit to take on the role of Lincoln High School's principal for the day as a part of the Get Schooled Foundation. En route, Sean had his most thought-provoking experience of the day.

"We were riding around through the city, and it's like, all the things that I've been through, and I'm coming back now as a role model," he tells The BoomBox. In 2008, things were moving quickly for Rye Rye. Her debut track, "Shake It to the Ground" -- released at the end of '07, when she was only 17 -- had caught the attention of Diplo and later electro-pop artist M.I.A., who recruited the Baltimore teen as a hype-woman for two tours and later signed her as the first artist for her newly minted Interscope subsidiary N.E.E.T.

Although Rihanna has adopted a blithely unconcerned attitude of late, the "Cockiness" singer has been notably quiet in response to the various barbs thrown her way by her ex, Chris Brown, and sometime beau Drake. However, hip-hop's elder statesman Russell Simmons has come to her defense, tweeting on Mother's Day (May 13) "Everyone needs to get off @rihanna's dick..." and attaching a link to a two-paragraph missive he posted on his website.

Accompanied by "scandalous" photos from Rihanna's recent shoot with Terry Richardson, the post addresses the various members of the music industry who have been "recently talking about 'good girl gone bad,' Rihanna," and further chastises her critics and ex-flames et al for insulting the singer for behavior which they applaud themselves for.

Rohan Marley -- son of reggae legend Bob Marley and former long-term boyfriend of Lauryn Hill -- is engaged to Brazilian supermodel Isabeli Fontana, according to numerous reports. The couple began dating last year, after Marley split with Hill, claiming that another man had fathered the singer's sixth child.

It could be a destination wedding, as the pair is thinking of tying the knot in Ethiopia, the birthplace of Haile Selassie, the centerpiece of the Rastafarian religion.

If Jay-Z succeeds in booking President Obama for his two-day Budweiser Made in America festival, set to go down in Philly over Labor Day weekend, Hova and the POTUS will have at least one thing to chat about backstage: their shared support of gay marriage.

Speaking with CNN's Poppy Harlow, Jay-Z said he believes gay people should have the right to get married, echoing statements Obama made last week.

Jay-Z can do and get pretty much whatever he wants, so it came as no surprise to hear that he was curating the two-day Budweiser Made In America music festival. The festival will take place over labor day weekend in Philadelphia, our nation's first capital.

Shyne recently partnered with Israeli startup All Our Power, an international movement that aims to have consumers pool their buying power to force companies to lower prices for its members. Rick Ross and his Maybach Music Group roster of talent -- Meek Mill, Wale, Stalley and now Omarion -- are currently crafting the highly anticipated compilation album, Self Made Vol. 2. Before the project debuts on June 26, Massillon, Ohio native Stalley gives insight on the recording process.

The bearded MC, who released his mixtape, Savage Journey to the American Dream, in March, traveled south to Atlanta to hit the studio with Ross for the follow-up to 2011's Self Made Vol. 1. "I throw a lot of verses on stuff that Ross already has," the rapper tells The BoomBox. "Ross is one of those guys that kinda sets records up. He's like, 'Listen to this, listen to this and listen to that.
