Ashanti will take her singing skills to New York's biggest stage in the Broadway play 'The Whiz.' The 28-year-old will star as Dorothy, in the adapted version of L. Baum's 'The Wizard of Oz.'

This isn't the first time Ashanti followed the yellow brick road. She first played the role on the small screen in 'The Muppets Wizard of Oz' in 2005. This time around the Grammy winner will be sans her puppet costars as she brings to life the role first played by singer Stephanie Mills in 1975. The play went on to win a Tony Award before being adapted into a film starring Diana Ross as Dorothy and Michael Jackson as the scarecrow.

Beyonce, Mary J. Blige, Mariah Carey, Keyshia Cole and Ashanti will join a host of talented and successful songbirds when they all join forces on the 'Just Stand Up' track, created to benefit cancer research.

The track, which was produced by Antonio "L.A." Reid and Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds, will feature some of the biggest names in R&B, country and pop, including teen sensation Miley Cyrus and Leona Lewis, and hits radio and iTunes on Sept. 2. All 15 of the divas featured on the song will take the stage to perform it at the "Stand Up to Cancer" television special, airing Sept. 5 on ABC, NBC and CBS.

Though most might not realize it, Grammy Award-winning songstress Ashanti is much more than just a pretty voice. The "Princess of R&B" is also a songwriter, producer, actress, and fashion designer. Ashanti recently opened up to AOL Music about her many roles in the creation of her latest album, her recent four year hiatus, and what it's like being "one of the guys." The singer also talks about her rumored relationship with Nelly. "I mean, have we been on dates? Of course! We went to the movies. We went to Anguilla! [More laughter] He's a good dude," Ashanti admits.
