Diddy Has Run-in With Los Angeles Police

Your favorite mogul/name changer had a gun pulled on him and his crew in Los Angeles over the weekend. According to published reports, one of three cars in Diddy's entourage was pulled over during a routine traffic stop on the Sunset Strip Sunday. The car, which was driven by a member of Diddy's entourage, was initially stopped for improper tags. According to TMZ, the driver of the second car was detained for being uncooperative.

Diddy and the other members of his group then stopped their cars and walked towards their detained counterpart. At which point a sheriff deputy drew his weapon, unaware that Diddy was in the group. "A deputy pulled his firearm, fearing for his safety," a sheriff's department spokesman explained in a statement. "The situation was deflated as quickly as it began."

After everything was cleared up the driver was not issued a ticket because the car was a rental. No one was hurt and the officers were "really respectful" according to Diddy's spokesperson Keyshia Johnson.

50 Cent Tops Forbes List of Hip Hop Cash Kings

You'd think Jay-Z's $150 million deal with Live Nation would place Hova at the top of the ladder when ranking hip-hop's highest earners, but it looks like 50 Cent reigns supreme in 2008. According to Forbes' Hip Hop Cash Kings list, 50 brought home $100 million after taxes when Coca-Cola brought VitaminWater from Glaceau in a $4.1 billion deal.

All the usual suspects make the Top 10. Jay landed at the No. 2 spot with an $82 million dollar payday while Diddy sits at No. 3 for the second year in a row. Kanye West took the No. 4 spot, bringing home $30 million from albums sales, endorsement deals and tours/concerts. Super-producer Timbaland rounds out the list in the No. 5 spot.

Notorious B.I.G., Tupac's Jewels Up for Grabs

Jewelry has been a big part of hip-hop culture from the days of the gold dookie rope chain to bling, so when it came time to raise money for Russell Simmons' Rush Community Affairs, a coalition of the mogul's non-profit organizations, Simmons turned to Phillips de Pury and Company. The auction house has announced 'Hip Hop's Crown Jewels,' a hip-hop jewelry auction, which will take place on October 1 in New York.

Some of the items featured in the auction include Slick Rick's diamond-laced eye patch, MC Lyte's Nefertiti ring and necklace and Notorious B.I.G.'s yellow gold and stainless steel Rolex watch with diamond bezel. The sale will also feature personal -- and in some cases, never-before-seen -- pieces like Tupac Shakur's diamond, ruby and gold crown ring with "Pac & Dada 1996" engraved on the band. The ring symbolizes the romantic relationship between the late rap star and Quincy Jones' daughter Kidada Jones. Pieces by Diddy, Kanye West, Missy Elliott, 50 Cent, Nas, Pharrell Williams, LL Cool J and Biz Markie, to name a few, will be featured in the auction. An auction preview, which is open to the public, will take place September 22-30.

Diddy's 'A Raisin in the Sun' Nominated for Three Emmys

Diddy does music. Diddy does marathons. Diddy even did a movie. Now, the music mogul's foray into Broadway and television may score him an Emmy. Okay, not exactly! The entertainer extraordinaire was not recognized for his actual performance in the television adaption of Lorraine Hansberry's 1959 play 'A Raisin in the Sun,' but the made-for-TV movie, which he produced, was acknowledged by the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.

'A Raisin in the Sun' will go head-to-head with 'Bernard and Doris' (HBO), 'Extras: The Extra Special Series Finale' (HBO, BBC), 'Recount' (HBO) and 'The Memory Keeper's Daughter' (Lifetime) in the Outstanding Made for Television Movie category at the 60th annual Primetime Emmy Awards.

Tony-award winning actress Phylicia Rashad was nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Miniseries or Movie for her work in the television movie. Rashad became the first African-American actress to win the Tony Award for Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Play, for her role in the revival of the Broadway play. Audra McDonald was nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actress In A Miniseries Or A Movie. The 60th annual Primetime Emmy Awards will air live on September 21.

L.A. Times Retracts Tupac Story

After apologizing and acknowledging that it unknowingly used forged FBI documents to create a report that linked hip hop mogul Sean "Diddy" Combs to the 1994 New York shooting of the Tupac Shakur, the Los Angeles Times has officially retracted the story, which was penned by Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter Chuck Phillips.

The story, which was posted on the Times Web site on March 17, claimed that Combs and Jimmy "Henchman" Rosemond -- the Game's manager and head of Czar Entertainment -- knew Tupac was to be ambushed in the lobby of New York's Quad Recording Studios. Combs and Rosemond have vehemently denied any involvement in the attacks.

"This story is beyond ridiculous and is completely false. Neither Biggie nor I had any knowledge of any attack before, during, or after it happened," Combs said in a statement on March 17. "It is a complete lie to suggest that there was any involvement by Biggie or myself. I am shocked that the Los Angeles Times would be so irresponsible as to publish such a baseless and completely untrue story."

L.A. Times Apologizes Over Tupac Article

After promising to launch an internal investigation, the Los Angeles Times has since apologized and acknowledged that it unknowingly used forged FBI documents to create a report that linked hip hop mogul Sean "Diddy" Combs to the 1994 New York shooting of the late Tupac Shakur.

Pulitzer-prize winning reporter Chuck Philips, Deputy Managing Editor Marc Duvoisin and Executive Editor Russ Stanton released statements yesterday after the Smoking Gun posted a report claiming the Times was "duped" by federal inmate, James Sabatino.

"In relying on documents that I now believe were fake, I failed to do my job," Philips said in a statement Wednesday. "I'm sorry." Duvoisin added: "We should not have let ourselves be fooled. That we were is as much my fault as Chuck's. I deeply regret that we let our readers down."
