First Official Song from Dr. Dre's 'Detox' Appears in Commercial

Dr Dre's long-delayed album 'Detox' looks like it may finally be seeing the light of day, albeit via unconventional means.

The first official song from the album appears in a new Dr. Pepper commercial, as part of a campaign for the soda called 'Trust Me, I'm A Doctor.' While the instrumental only plays for a few seconds, people will recognize it as 'S--- Popped Off,' a reference track T.I. wrote for Dre, which leaked earlier this year.

"Scientific tests prove when you drink Dr. Pepper slow, the 23 flavors taste even better. For me, slow always produces a hit," Dre says in the ad, while swaggering through an L.A. party, wearing a motorcycle jacket. He then slows down the record by setting a can of the soda on the record, throws on his "Beats" headphones, plays a few seconds of 'S--- Popped Off' instrumental, and the crowd goes nuts.

Canadian Soccer Mom is New Death Row Records Owner

When WIDEawake Entertainment Group purchased Death Row Records' masters and publishing for the bargain price of $18 million last week, very little was known about the three-year-old Canadian company or Lara Lavi, the woman who runs it.

"I've been fielding questions like, 'Is Suge in Jail?' Am I secretly doing this on his behalf? Am I really just his publicist?" Lavi quipped.

The truth, it turns out, is that Death Row's new head honcho is a self-described "Jewish soccer mom," who founded her company WIDEawake in 2006, in order to facilitate her interests in film and music. "It's going to take us at least eight months to assess and coordinate what we've bought -- making sure that the tracks are stored properly, and digitized, with all rights negotiated," she said, of the uphill battle that her company now faces.

Lavi was a child prodigy who began playing piano at the age of three, but went on to earn a law degree. She has worked in music for the majority of her life, both as a singer/songwriter and as a lawyer and is excited to be working with the Shakur estate to release new 2Pac material. "Death Row artists have a legacy just like the Motown artists did," she said. "The lifeblood of the company is their body of work -- and I want to get down to the task of honoring it."

Coroner Confirms Dr. Dre's Son Died of Heroin Overdose

Los Angeles Country coroners have confirmed that the death of Dr. Dre's son, Andre Young Jr., was the result of an accidental heroin and morphine overdose.

"Andre Young Jr.'s death has been ruled as an accident due to morphine and heroin intoxication," media officer Ed Winter told one publication.

The 20-year-old was found in the bedroom of their Woodland Hills, CA, home by his mother, Jenita Porter, on the morning of August 23.

Porter told police that her son had come home at around 5:30 a.m., after having spent the night out with friends, but that she heard him snoring in his bedroom upon his return. Later in the morning, Porter discovered that Young was unconscious, so she called paramedics, who attempted to revive him, to no avail. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Dr. Dre has yet to release an official statement since the news of his son's cause of death was revealed.

Eminem's 'Relapse' Pushed Back to 2009

Last week, in a move that surprised no one, Eminem announced that his forthcoming album 'Relapse' has now been pushed back to "early 2009." After having spent "years working on the album," he told MTV's TRL (RIP, please) that all he had left to do was finalize the tracklisting with Dr. Dre, which could take...forever.

We have high hopes for the album, especially after the book release party for 'The Way I Am,' where Em revealed the album title, along with a new freestyle, that sounds like a return to form. But then he added that the album would be released as part of an Aftermath/Interscope "three-headed monster," between 50 Cent's 'Before I Self Destruct' and Dre's 'Detox,' which left us expecting his release date to fall sometime between now and the end of the world. Also, back to back, the titles read like an episode of 'Celebrity Rehab.'

From what we've heard from a source, the album features twelve Dre beats, thus far, and DJ Premier was tapped to produce a song on the album, so hopefully those will all make the cut. 'Relapse' will be Em's first release since 2004's 'Encore.'

'The Chronic' by Dr. Dre
With a couple of high-pitched synth notes and a "Bow wow wow yippie yo yippie yay," 'The Chronic' forever changed the face of West Coast hip-hop. Powered by singles like 'Nuthin' But a "G" Thang,' 'Let Me Ride' and 'Dre Day,' the good Doc's 1992 album introduced the world to G-Funk via a gang of George Clinton-inspired trunk rattlers and young, hungry rappers, the Dogg Pound, Lady of Rage and Snoop Dogg.
