Scarface performed "My Mind Playing Tricks on Me," which is a sample from Hayes' "Hung Up On My Baby" while Chuck D concluded the tribute with 'Black Steel In the Hour of Chaos,' which samples 'Hyperbolicsyllabicsesquedalymistic.'
The show, to air October 6 on VH-1 was hosted by comedian Tracey Morgan. This year's honorees were rappers T-Short, Slick Rick and hip-hop groups De La Soul, Cypress Hill, and Naughty by Nature. Attendees and performers included Kid Rock, Eve, Busta Rhymes, MC Lyte and Flavor Flav.
Jewelry has been a big part of hip-hop culture from the days of the gold dookie rope chain to bling, so when it came time to raise money for Russell Simmons' Rush Community Affairs, a coalition of the mogul's non-profit organizations, Simmons turned to Phillips de Pury and Company. The auction house has announced 'Hip Hop's Crown Jewels,' a hip-hop jewelry auction, which will take place on October 1 in New York.
