Rihanna Shares Her Umbrella With Chris Brown at the Glow in the Dark Tour's NY Stop

It's not everyday that an artist has an opportunity to takeover New York's Madison Square Garden. On Tuesday, Lupe Fiasco, N.E.R.D, Rihanna and the "No. 1 human in music" -- aka Kanye West -- rocked MSG during the New York stop of the Glow in the Dark tour.

In an effort to make sure Mr. West doesn't spazz on us, we at the BoomBox decided to steer clear of saying anything that would anger the "Great One," even though we're a little disappointed that the rap star never actually glowed in the dark during the 60 minute set ... but I digress. Instead, we decided to mention Rihanna's hot performance and new partner in crime Chris Brown.

Rihanna Helping Leukemia Patient Search for Bone Marrow Donor

Pop/R&B sensation Rihanna, who was just named honorary cultural ambassador of Barbados, has launched an appeal for a bone marrow donor with DKMS, a non-profit international donor network, to try to find a donor for Lisa Gershowitz Flynn.

Rihanna was compelled to help the 41-year-old mother of two, who's battling leukemia, when she heard Flynn's story. "When I heard about Lisa's plight, my heart broke," the singer told PEOPLE. "I said, 'I need to get the word out about Lisa right away.'"

Rihanna in Post-Grammy Fender Bender

R&B sensation Rihanna was involved in a minor collision after grabbing the gold at the Grammy Awards on Sunday.

It wasn't long after the singer walked away with the award for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration for her smash hit 'Umbrella,' featuring Jay-Z, that her car was hit by another vehicle outside the Island/Def Jam party in Los Angeles.

Rihanna and her driver were not injured in the fender bender.

Kanye West to Hit the Road With Lupe Fiasco, Rihanna

Kanye West is ready to prove that he is, in fact, the "No. 1 human in music." West, who's been teasing fans and visitors to his official blog with posts insinuating an upcoming jaunt, announced that he's hitting the road with Lupe Fiasco, N.E.R.D and Rihanna on the 'Glow in the Dark' tour.

The super-producer/rapper has also given us a taste of what's to come from Neptunes' producer Pharrell Williams side project N.E.R.D with a recent post featuring new music from the outfit.

The road trip will also give Child Rebel Soldier (CRS), the supergroup consisting of West, Lupe and Williams, a chance to preview music from their forthcoming project.

Jay-Z Adds Hotelier to Resume

Hip-hop mogul Jay-Z is on a quest to leave no stone unturned. The rap star is attempting to add to his resume with a recent real estate development venture that will spawn J Hotels, which reportedly purchased a piece of land in Chelsea.

Jay-Z teamed up with developer Abram Shnay, his son, Scott Shnay, and Charles Blaichman to iron out details for a possible high-end hotel or an art gallery building.

"It's a great piece of property adjacent to the High Line in a great neighborhood," Scott Shnay told the New York Post.

Jay-Z, whose real name is Shawn Carter, has already had an enormous amount of success in the trendy New York neighborhood with his 40/40 Club.

In addition to his prosperous business ventures, the rapper has been nominated for five Grammy awards, including Record of the Year and Song of the Year for Rihanna's hit 'Umbrella.'

Grammys Show Kanye Love With Eight Grammy Nods

Kanye West received a whopping eight Grammy nominations -- including Album of the Year -- for his chart-topping 2007 effort 'Graduation.'

The rapper/producer, whose mother passed away suddenly last month, was insiders' top pick and leads the list with the most nods. Troubled songstress Amy Winehouse tails behind West with six nominations. 'Graduation,' West's third album, sold almost 1 million copies its first week, topping 50 Cent's 'Curtis.'

Jay-Z ('Kingdom Come'), Common ('Finding Forever'), Nas ('Hip Hop Is Dead'), T.I. ('T.I. vs. T.I.P') and West ('Graduation') all earned nominations for Best Rap Album.

Other nominees included Mary J. Blige, Alicia Keys, Rihanna, T-Pain, Chris Brown, Timbaland, and Akon.

Dr. Dre to Finish 'Detox' and Retire

Dr. Dre will retire in 2008. But first, he'll release one final album, his first in eight years, called 'Detox.' And then there's that little matter of two more months work on Eminem's upcoming album. "I think it's time to move on," the 42-year-old rap icon told the Los Angeles Times, calling rhyming "a young man's game."

Dre isn't abandoning the rap game entirely. He's a self-professed studio addict. "Lots of producers have hits, but he does far more than that,
Interscope Records chief Jimmy Iovine said, "He's a creator who has moved popular culture three times ... with gangsta rap, G-funk and Eminem."

MIMS Plays With the Big Boys, Readies New Album

While MIMS didn't win the VMA for Monster Single of the Year with his smash 'This Is Why I'm Hot,' (for those keeping score, Rihanna's 'Umbrella' took the honor) the rapper truly believes a time-honored nominee cliche. "It's just an honor to be nominated," he tells Popeater. "I was nominated with a bunch of great artists -- Timbaland, T-Pain. I'm playing with the big boys. Next year I'll come back and get it."

To that end, the rapper is working on both his next album, which he says is due in March of 2008, and a remix collection of songs from the 'Music is My Savior' album. As to what fans can expect of the remix album, due in December, he says, "If anybody knows what I did with the 'This is Why I'm Hot' remix with Junior Reid and Cham, they know that I like to bring it to different areas, different islands, different cultures. I want to hear something different. I might do something with an international artist or a pop artist. You never know."

Justin Timberlake, Beyonce Lead MTV VMA Noms

Justin Timberlake and Beyonce lead the nominations for the 2007 MTV Video Music Awards with seven nods each, it was announced today. Following closely behind are Rihanna and Kanye West, who racked up five nominations a piece, while everyone's favorite wino, Amy Winehouse, earned three.

Super-producer-turned-artist Timbaland takes the reigns as the musical director for the event, which will take place in Las Vegas' Palms Casino Resort. Confirmed performances include Timberlake, West, Winehouse, Rihanna, Chris Brown, Fall Out Boy, Foo Fighters and Lily Allen.

Several new categories will make their debut in the 24th annual installment of the awards show: Male Artist of the Year, Female Artist of the Year, Most Earthshattering Collaboration, Monster Single of the Year, and Quadruple Threat of the Year -- an award honoring a jack of all trades (i.e. music, fashion, philanthropy, business, acting and dance).

The VMAs will air live Sept. 9 on MTV, at 9pm ET. For a full list of the nominees, go to MTV.com.
