Kanye West, Wyclef Jean and N.E.R.D. to Perform at Democratic Convention

The Democratic party has announced that it's recruited some big name acts for the upcoming Democratic National Convention in Denver. Kanye West, Wyclef Jean and N.E.R.D. will take to stage to support presidential hopeful Senator Barack Obama at the four day event, which kicks off on August 25.

The recently revealed acts may come as a bit of surprise, but this year's election is being geared toward motivating young people to get out and vote for change. A slew of musicians have already rallied behind Obama, including Will.i.am of the Black Eyed Peas, Common, John Legend, Herbie Hancock, Nick Cannon and Nicole Scherzinger of the Pussycat Dolls, who are all featured in the Emmy-award winning collage style "Yes We Can" music video.

Forest Whitaker, Ben Affleck, Scarlett Johansson, Maggie Gyllenhaal and Edward Norton are also set to attend the event.

Wyclef Jean to Lend a Hand, and His Name, to Save Haiti

Today at the Gansevoort Hotel in New York, Wyclef Jean announced his new campaign: Together for Haiti. The initiative is a partnership between Clef's own foundation Yele Haiti, the United Nations' World Food Programme (WFO) and the Pan American Development Foundation. The goal? To bring to the people of Haiti the means to grow their own food and to effectively end the food crisis there.

"The revolution has to start with the minds of the people," Jean, who was born in Haiti, said during the press conference. "You can't have a future without starting from the ground."

Jean was accompanied by the economist Dr. Jeffrey Sachs of the WFO, model and activist Petra Nemcova and other representatives from various involved organizations. After the presentation, another big name showed up, singer-songwriter Paul Simon. Jean described Simon as one of his "heroes" while Dr. Sachs hailed the former Fugee for consistently lending a hand. "Haiti is in desperate need and Wyclef is, as always, rising to the occasion," Dr. Sachs said.

Wyclef Asks Haitians to Stop the Violence

"If you love Wyclef that means you love Haiti," Grammy-winning singer-songwriter/producer Wyclef Jean said in a recorded radio message run by local stations in the nation. "So you should not be raping women, kidnapping people and children. There can be no excuse for doing so."

Jean, who was appointed by Haitian President Rene Preval to serve as a roving ambassador last year, is now coming to the country's aid as part of the U.N.'s latest peacekeeping mission. Haitian officials are working to reduce a rise in crime, including kidnappings and gang violence, and they hope the singer's influence will make a difference.

"All kinds of Haitians, the good guys as well as the bad guys, have a lot of appreciation for Wyclef for what he represents as a Haitian," Fred Blaise, a spokesman for the U.N. police, told Reuters. "So they would be more likely to be receptive to Wyclef's message because they are all proud of him."

Wyclef Claims Michael Jackson Owes Him Money

In a recent interview with Sweden's 'The Voice,' Former Fugee Wyclef Jean reveals some possible beef with the King of Pop. In the interview, the singer-songwriter/rapper/producer awkwardly describes a scenario which implies that Michael Jackson may have snubbed him. 'I was in the studio with Mike. Michael owes me money. Mike, holla at me. You know what it is."

Wyclef, who seemed to have left humility back in the States, tells the interviewer that he's worked with "everybody in the universe," and goes on to say that MJ booked a session with him, but things didn't quite work out. Watch the full interview at Allhiphop.com.

Wyclef Takes 'Carnival II' on the Road

Former Fugee Wyclef Jean is taking his 'Carnival' on the road. Wyclef's 'Carnival House Tour,' in support of his new album 'Carnival Vol. II: Memoirs of an Immigrant,' will hit the road on January 14 in Providence, Rhode Island, wrapping February 26 in Kitchener, Ohio.

"For me, the performance is just the most natural thing to me. I've been performing since a baby," Wyclef told AOL Music. "A lot of us have church roots. My dad was a minister, so the element of a band and a camera just feels right at home for me."

Wyclef's "church roots" might not be as present during this road trip, considering the performer's promise to turn up the dial. "Bring an extra shirt with you because it's gonna get sweaty," Wyclef said when forecasting the vibe of his upcoming jaunt. "We're gonna do it like Brazilian Carnival. We're gonna get mad."
